Innovative studies on cell senescence inspire Comfort Zone’s new approach to anti-ageing

With the relaunch of Sublime Skin, the Comfort Zone R&R team has further deepened its knowledge of skin ageing mechanisms in order to offer even more complete and effective cosmetic solutions.

The innovation relates to the study and treatment of cellular senescence, a critical phenomenon that accompanies skin ageing and affects all cells and all skin layers, globally and progressively compromising skin vitality and functionality.

Research has found that when cells age and reach the senescence stage, they don’t simply stop stimulating growth factors. Instead, they also release harmful substances, known as SASPs (senescence-associated secretory phenotypes), inflammatory molecules that attack neighbouring cells, causing them to enter a state of premature senescence.

This triggers a chain reaction in the skin’s layers that causes and aggravates wrinkles, dryness and a visible loss of tone.

More specifically, inflammatory molecules (SASPs) in the epidermis alter the turnover causing weakening of the barrier function and a greater water loss.

In the dermis, they compromise the fibroblasts, reducing collagen and elastin production and they cause an increase in metalloproteinases, the enzymes that degrade collagen and elastin, damaging the skin, which becomes less firm and elastic.

In the hypodermis the secretion of inflammatory SASP molecules also reduces adipogenesis, leading to less lipid accumulation, which explains the loss of tissue volume observed with age.

In order to counteract cellular senescence, Comfort Zone has selected Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 for the new Sublime Skin Intensive Serum.

This high tech ingredient reduces the presence of SASPs by 55 per cent and therefore weakens the degeneration caused by senescent cells. Furthermore, the compound blocks the skin neurotransmitter responsible for facial expression, inhibiting muscle contraction and reducing wrinkles and expression lines.
